I hunt crop damage deer in August and September. Most days are in the 70's or hotter so I'll use that as the basis for my answer.
If it's a quick kill, I field dress it within 20 -30 minutes and put it in the shade. I may then sit until close if it's less that 1 - 1 1/2 hours. Longer than that I head home immediately.
As soon as I get home it's rinsed with cold water and put in the cooler that runs at 32-36F.
