If the people giving you the advice are living above the Arctic circle then they may be able to hang it for two weeks this time of the year.
However I think that's nuts. To properly age it, you need to have it in a controlled temperature cooler that runs between 30 - 36 degrees, with the hide on. Think of peeling an apple or banana as the same as skinning your deer, once the protection of the hide is gone the animal starts to dehydrate at a rapid rate and bacteria have ready access to the carcass. After two weeks it would be moldy if left at temperatures above 40 degrees.
